Eastern Bluestar blooms in mid-spring, with a height of up to 3 feet tall. Lance-shaped leaves are whorled up long stems that terminate in compact panicles of striking bright blue star-shaped flowers that offer up a showy display. The flowers attract various long-tongued insects, including the Large Carpenter Bee and hummingbird moths. Narrow beanlike pods will often form after flowering and can offer additional late-season interest.
